Given this situation of trust and the requirements, we've decided to use end-to-end encryption using AES-GCM with key management handled by Oase.

This means that data is encrypted on your device before you send the message, and it is not decrypted before it reaches your peer oase members devices.

The data is unreadable for any of the parties handling the data on the journey from your device to your peer oase members devices.

An oase will get an encryption key which can be accessed exclusively by the oase members. This key will be used to encrypt and decrypt data on device.

An important part of the solution is that the encryption keys are stored in a different cloud than the data itself. This ensures that a potential breach with any of our providers alone would not give an adversary any readable data.
