Really cool shooter you've put together. I like the atmosphere and the sound design. The guns feel good, the shotgun especially. I played on Normal difficulty and found no shortage of supplies and ammo which was nice. As my time with the game was brief I didn't have much of a chance to "git gud" and struggled with the first boss. Maybe a slightly faster heal animation? But if this is the level of difficulty you are going for then all good. I find the premise of being a psychotherapist putting down someone's inner demons very interesting but I wish the monster design could reflect that more rather than just generic demons. The creature designs are still cool though. The game played and ran well which is also a huge plus. Really well done!
I want to start by saying kudos for completing a game! Great accomplishment and you should be proud of that.Now, I am going to be really critical here as there was no small amount of frustration I had with my experience in this game until I ultimately hit a quit moment - which I will get in to.Firstly, the environments themselves felt blocky, bland and fairly uninspired with undetailed corridors of red and fleshly material choices that do not really lend themselves to the 'mind' of a therapy patient. I felt that the layouts needed to feel much more organic and lean a lot heavier into the body horror elements of a persons mind taken literally.The monsters themselves felt like there was only perhaps 3 variations of the basic enemy models with different textures, fighting them felt quite good overall however there were several moments where they seem to spawn right on top of me giving no time to react prior to getting hit which lead to a few frustrating deaths that I felt the game cheated me on (more on that later). Some of them also seem to move much faster than the player which means running around to reload is almost meaningless as you will always take a guaranteed hit at least once or twice during a reload cycle.The two boss fights I played through also required a few attempts but they were not in an engaging learn-while-you-play kind of way. Our initial floating entity that shoots the fireball seems to have insane tracking and is very very difficult to meaningfully dodge which lead me to just have to pump through med stims and tank the damage whilst gunning them down with the shotgun.The final boss battle was interesting enough and the floating skulls were cool however I do wish there was some sort of boss HP bar or other indicators on what they are doing and where they are in relation to the player. This fight was another example of enemies moving too fast causing some pretty unfair feeling deaths that need to be slogged through to finish the fight.While we are on that - I found that by far the best and most efficient strategy was just to run head on into the floating skulls since they damage you and kill themselves (saving your ammo) and then just pumping a medkit stim every time you get a space, at this point I had an insane amount of stims (40?) so there was really no strategising I needed to do.
Theme/Setting = 7/10.The game a great psychological feel with how some of the rooms and areas were done, I really liked that part where the walls moved and you eventually got the AKM. Some spaces though felt a little too empty and sometimes it felt like a walking simulator with random enemy spawns that happen right in front of you 80% of the time. I liked the super sharp corners you had to turn at very beginning of the playthrough. I wished the horror feel continued throughout the rest of the game. There was a like of eerie and dark sounds ex. (screams, crying, whispers etc..) I liked where the head space was though in the process of making parts of the map. Overall the graphics and setting were ok even though I wish I could change the FOV a little.
Conclusion:
Same Room Same Day is a first-person shooter with a touch of horror, high dynamism of all events, long duration and an interesting plot. Events unfold in the mind of a woman who was captured by hordes of demons led by a very powerful enemy. The main character must reach him and destroy the target before the girl runs out of time. To implement the plan, the protagonist has an arsenal of weapons and special abilities. Attractive graphics, spectacular fights, hordes of monsters of different types, as well as classic mechanics will certainly please fans of shooters.
