Highlights:

The Backrooms Of Your Soul

The “story” of Escape the Backrooms is that you and your friends have been transported to these creepy backrooms and there are various entities stalking these rooms that want you dead. You need to sneak around and try to find the exit in order to move on to the next one. I would not say that there is a deep story here, but as a premise, I think what they have done here is really cool and it is one of the few games where I think that them keeping things from the player adds to the tension.

Escaping With Your Friends

I have to say that playing this on my own was nowhere near as good as playing with my friends. Escape the Backrooms is a game that is 100 percent at its best when played with your friends. The game has a lot of tension to it which is even there when you and your friends are screwing around. What I love is the way it handles voice chat. It can be so tempting to separate to try and find the exit quicker, but it has proximity voice chat so if you wander too far, you can no longer be heard! Also, you all need to escape so there is no point running through the level and leaving your friends behind. I had a blast playing this in multiplayer and felt that when I went back to play it on my own, it lost some of that magic.

Backrooms Still Being Made

As I write this, Escape the Backrooms is in early access and while I have enjoyed my time with the game, I do have to say that you can clearly tell that this is an early access game. In my time playing it, I had a run of multiple games and levels without any kind of issue and that was great. Then there would be times when the glitches would force me to restart a whole session. From getting stuck in walls, entities not doing anything and voice chat not working at all. I am pretty sure that these kinks will be worked out by the developers, but I did feel like I had to mention them.
