The Sims 4 feels quite different from earlier games in the series, especially when compared to The Sims 3. As a free-to-play entry, it’s a good way to spend some time or scratch that Sims itch, but if you’re nostalgic about The Sims 2 or The Sims 3… this won’t quite do it.Now, that isn’t to say the game isn’t good - the base package has a very strong focus on character building (the Create-a-Sim function is incredibly flexible and allows for very detailed characters), and the social interactions in the game are also the best they’ve ever been in the series (although, I felt that systems such as Group Conversations can sometimes bug out and behave unpredictably).The sharpest difference, however, appears when you get to things like Build Mode - it introduces some nice improvements, such as terrain tools and easier room-based building, but it lacks some of the deeper customization options that you had in The Sims 3. I also have to highlight the absence of the “Fast Forward until finishing the task” button, as well as the somewhat lackluster skill trees and activities.Overall, The Sims 4 is a good base package for players who prefer focusing more on character depth rather than world freedom. It does some things better than its predecessors, while others are simply missed.

Great game, but the downloadable content is much too expensive for how little it offers. I find myself spending countless hours playing the game, but when I want specific things in my game, that you can only get from the DLC and not mods, it annoys me because I don't want to spend my whole paycheck on a tiny little specific detail that makes a world of difference.

Is the community made up of perverted war criminals? probably. But I'll be damned if I'll let some neck beard who can barely play cod tell me the game I've spent hundreds of hours modding, tweaking, and making reshade presets for tell me it's not a video game.
