my eyes deceive is a slow-paced psychological horror game based around the concept of a child being born and raised in a cramped, secluded basement being told the outside world is apocalyptic purely to be raped and impregnated for money. The daytime gameplay is very simple and consists of repetitive daily tasks which are purposefully made to be boring to convey the awful life it would be. Playing as a hopeful and positive little girl very strongly conveys her innocence which is only more detrimental emotionally as we progress. The nightmare sequences are genuinely fear inducing and stressful, but nothing is more horrific than the endings. In the good ending you escape from the basement after nearly being raped and see the sun for the first time, an emotional moment for the player but not the character as she asks what it is and why it hurts. The other, much more vile ending, results in a time skip of 140 days in the bunker in which you continue the usual day-to-day gameplay, but your movement is slowed and vision slightly groggy. As you finish the sequence she asks the most disgusting and sickening question I've ever heard- "why is my belly so round and big?" the visceral description of pregnancy concludes the game and leaves you to imagine what happens to her and the baby, which I can only assume is used in a cycle of abuse. Overall I found this to be one of the scariest and most dread-inducing games I've ever played and most likely ever will play. but I don't think it's quite a 10, rather a very strong 9.
