Player Comments:

This game definitely does a great job capturing that Castlevania vibe. The controls are smooth (although I think the use of a controller would be my preferred method) and the music and graphics are great. I'm excited to see how this game turns out when its full version is released.

After 100%'ing the game, my opinion of it shot way up. This is an incredible, massively underrated game that's a shining star of the genre, made with so much heart and soul from the dev that it squeezes the heart to see just how much love went into this game. Some of these reviews from other people I'm reading are bizarre, like 5 paragraphs of whining about "abilities you earn" getting taken away, when it's like 3 basic abilities after the first 45 minute long prologue in a 25 hour game. This dev understands the spirit of the metroidvania genre and excels. Sure it's got some rough edges, but it's a solo dev game, of course it does. Look past a small lack of polish and you'll see pure, raw excellence.Incredibly solid Igavania. The difficulty curve on Normal feels perfect. The bosses take a handful of tries and traversal is dangerous, meaning I need to be careful and make use of various abilities and items to stay alive. The game felt a bit clunky at first, but once I got used to it and started feeling really smooth. It's just more deliberate than many action games. Graphics look great and the game has a ton of charm with a traditional Castlevania aesthetic, for the most part.My only real complaint is the graphical style mixing, as it's jarring and detracts from the vibe pretty heavily. Seeing these smooth high-res portraits and high-res UI elements every now and then does *not* look good. I understand the dev wanted to show off the art, and it *is* good art, but it just doesn't look good in-game. Those same portraits down-res'd to match would look absolutely beautiful, and considering the prequel did that, it's a big boggling why he downgraded there and decided to mix pixel sizes (which is like rule #1 of pixel art not to do). Luckily it's not something you see very often in-game and the moment-to-moment gameplay keeps the consistent feel.Definitely an underrated gem of a metroidvania and this deserves so, so, SO much more attention and love than it's getting.

I'm very amazed. You nailed the "Castlevania" vibe especially Order of Ecclesia, but with new, complex, yet awesome mechanics. I'm a hardocre Castlevania gamer and i am treating your amazing game as one. It's that great. Keep it up, we're rooting for you. Good fanservice as well..? (haha) By the way, you got me good in wanting to know more about Xandria's past. The fight with Eva was such a cliffhanger ! I badly wanna continue the story >_< Also, are all platforms always in same game versions?

Walkthrough:

Chapter 0a: The Prologue

This starting portion of the game is pretty straight forward, so I won't be covering much here. Feel free to experiment as much as you want here, as to be honest nothing will matter. As a quick side note, this will be a spoiler if this is your first time playing, but I figured I would mention this upfront to save you any unnecessary enemy grinding and keep you from wasting your time.

After after completing the Prologue you will lose all of your abilities, equipment, found items and be reset to Level 1. However, all basic items here will remain until your next visit, when they may be collected. For example, the Beers found behind the hidden wall will stay until actually collected. The exception to this is Witch Hat found at the first Save Point, although this also used to apply to it, but that seems to have been recently nerfed, as I attempted to utilize it for this Walkthrough.

The only other item that I'm unsure of is the Attack Upgrade located behind the Calcite Wall found in the room where the aforementioned Beers are discovered. Since you start the game at Level 7, and then are reset to Level 1 after completing the Prologue, I am unsure as to whether or not this upgrade carries over into the "main game". It probably does, but just to be safe I recommend skipping it, and saving it as a little treat for yourself the next time that you come here.

Furthermore, it seems that you keep your Enemies listing. So feel free to kill everything you see, just in case you wanted to look at their stats later or get an early start on that Achievement.

Chapter 0b: Waking in Amerithia

Once you've gotten your bearings, go to the item shop and speak with Gabriel, who will mention that his "daughter" is missing. This is our very first quest, although the game doesn't have any way of tracking them or our progress with them. He'll then immediately open his Shop Menu.

Purchase the Magic Medallion for $10, as we'll need it to leave the town in a little bit, then go to the library next door and speak with our old teacher Rachel, who will lament feeling exhausted after spending all of her time helping you recover. In exchange for finding her a Nacatamal, a Coffee and some Bread she offers to help you upgrade your Circuits, which will be come very important for us as time goes on. You probably saw the Bread for sale in Gabriel's Shop, but don't bother buying it, as we'll be getting it for free really soon.

The large building with the purple banners out front is the headquarters for the Alchemist Order that your currently working for, but at the moment we cannot go beyond its entrance hall. We can leave town via the east exit, but we wouldn't be able to progress very far there either, so head out the western gate using the Magic Medallion, and let's begin the actual game now!

Just as you've left the town you'll encounter a small cabin; this is Xandria's House. Go inside to find a bag of $500 just sitting on a desk. I suggest going back into Amerithia and purchasing the Battle Boots from Gabriel, as unlike most other RPG's you won't be finding Shop items like this lying around. This will give you a pretty significant starting boost, especially when it comes to using your Alchemy Actions.

Chapter 1a: Upper Eldralis Woods

Go a couple screen in and you'll immediately encounter a Rock Ogre standing on a small platform. I recommend farming this little guy for at least a couple Levels. They also have a pretty high chance of dropping Iron Ore, which is a very important upgrading material that we'll need a lot of going forward. If you have the patience for it, I suggest grinding until you have at least 8 of them, as that will allow us to buy one of the best Actions in the game as it becomes available. Just make sure to save every once in a while or you may accidentally die, losing all of your time invested here.

Continue on and take the first path downward. This underground area has a small platforming section on its left side, which ends with the Ferrum Stella Action. This is our first projectile attack since leaving the Prologue, but we'll be getting another one very soon, although this one is generally better and will be tied to paying off with the Iron Ore grind that's mentioned above.

Go back to ground level and continue into the next room, where you'll be forced to platform your way up and over a wall, but before you reach the bottom on the other side, head left. In a small upper hallway you can jump on a higher ledge to find another bag of $500 waiting for you. Make your way to the ground again, and be wary of the Evilvine waiting for us here, as it can cause Poison, which is a very dangerous status effect to have this early in the game.

In the next area platform your way over the spiked floor, and at the end of the room on the other side of them you'll a spiked ball hanging from a chain. Slap the chain to trigger a cutscene that shows the floor opening up at the beginning of this room. However, before you decide to rush over there you may want to consider dropping into the floor directly below us, as there's a Save Point there. When you're ready, go back to that opened floor from the cutscene to find another bag of $500 and a Mana Upgrade.

In the next room you'll find a Skeleton and another Evilvine; take them both out, then attack the bottom right wall to find a Defense Upgrade. After that, head through the upper exit and climb to the middle of this room, then proceed all the way to the left to find a Rock Ogre guarding another bag of $500. Go into the next room and drop into the underground again.

Be wary of both the sludge trap above and a Molotov Ahuizote on the other side of it. Try not to get pincered between them, but also be careful to avoid their attacks, as both deal a large amount of damage. In the room behind them you'll find the Electro Sphaera Action. This creates rotating spheres of electricity at the point of cast, and is capable of dealing out a large amount of damage for this point in the game if the spheres hit the same enemy multiple times. So you may as well equip it now, especially since the nearby cultist tends to take no whip damage if your Level is low enough.

Head back above, then into the next room, where we'll encounter our first water area and a Tutorial about the breath meter, which isn't something we'll have to worry about for too long. Grab the Quick Menu Ability, and make note of it. Personally, I usually have Setup A for my main combat stuff, Setup B for any map progression Abilities, and I use Setup C exclusively for mobility. Unfortunately, we obviously don't have access to any of that right now, but just keep this stuff in mind, as it can save you dozens of minutes spent messing with your inventory later on.

Continue onward until we've climbed as high as we can, and enter the left room to find a Save Point. Then come back here and head towards the right to be introduced the Order's researcher Margaret, who is currently surrounded by a bunch of monsters, which she asks you to clear. There's really nothing special to mention here, as they are basic enemies, so take care of them any way you wish.

After saving her you'll be given the Magnesium Powder Alloy, which allows your whip to deal light damage. This consumes a significant amount of mana from our current limited pool, but raises our damage quite a bit, and as of writing this guide the Developer has recently buffed Alloys, so they aren't anywhere near as mana hungry as there were previously. So it will be something we'll try to consider while going forward.

Go back and save, then continue right, all the way to the end of this long stretch and into the next area. Here we'll find ourselves standing on a ledge in next room, where a Cheap Necklace sits. This gives a tiny boost over our old Sacuanjoche Flower momento, but perhaps that will be useful for us in some way later on...

Make your way back to first Save Point for this area, and this time take the lower path. In the next room, attack the upper left wall to reveal another smaller room which contains 3 loaves of Bread and a Defense Upgrade. You'll also probably notice a book-shaped upgrade in the lower right corner of the previous room, but this will have to wait until we've reclaimed the Slide Ability, which should be fairly soon. In the room ahead, immediately drop to the bottom and enter the right room.

Carefully tread through this long stretched room, as there are many things that can kill you. The Magnesium Alloy can make short work of the enemies here, making your traversal here a bit less stressful. In the area ahead, you'll have to climb upward, where you'll reach a split intersection. Take the left path to reach our first Train Station! Hop inside and use it to take a one way trip back to town.

Final Thoughts:

Toziuha Night: OotA creates extremely interesting battles when each person must make good use of alchemy power. From there, weapons are upgraded to destroy dangerous enemies in different locations. The game does not limit the number of explorations, so the journey is in your hands.
