A Chance Encounter With A Cellphone

When I read the description of the plot for Agent17 I thought that it sounded pretty exciting. There is an accident and you find a phone with a cracked screen, you decide to take the phone and end up being called by a mysterious agent who wants you to do what they tell you. I thought that was a fantastic premise, the idea of being a regular guy who is forced into being a secret agent! However, our MC pretty much uses this special phone to blackmail people to try and get laid. Look, I get that this is a lewd game, but I think it could have been so much more.

You Know The Deal

The main part of the gameplay of Agent17 has you clicking around different locations in the town. You have to earn money so that you can buy things and build up points (let's just call them blackmail points!) so you can get people to do what you want. I think that there is a bit of a grind here, but it is not obnoxious like many other lewd sandbox games can sometimes be. You also have the visual novel aspect where you have to pick the right things to say and do with certain characters.

Puzzled About Puzzles

One thing that I have to give Agent17 a ton of credit for is for having some minigames. These range from having to put together the pieces of a note in a puzzle, picking the right color, hitting the right thing at the right time, and more. Granted these are not exactly going to blow you away, but they are used well enough that it prevents the normal “sand boxy” type stuff you have to do in a game like this from getting stale.

It's What’s On The Inside That Counts

Visually… I am not actually sure if I like the style of Agent17 or not. The character renders can sometimes have a really weird look about them. Some of the ladies look great, actually, most of them do. However, other characters in this world can look just downright odd and very unnatural. I can see why most of the effort was spent on the women in the game, but I think a bit more work on the other non-essential characters would be nice.
