Beat Cop is an action-adventure game where players take on the role of a framed detective who, after becoming a patrol officer, embarks on a journey to uncover the truth. Facing a demanding superior and a greedy gang, players will begin their investigation and power struggle in the heart of the city. Beat Cop offers a high degree of freedom; players can freely issue tickets and reprimand pedestrians in the city center, investigate every corner of the city, and battle all sorts of characters. Will you ultimately be able to uncover the truth?

Mechanics of Beat Cop:

Beat Cop’s gameplay revolves around time management, choice-driven dialogue, and daily objectives. Each in-game day is a timed session where players must complete a set list of tasks:

Writing parking tickets

Arresting vandals or burglars

Investigating specific addresses

Questioning suspects or informants

Following clues related to your personal investigation

Time is your most limited resource. You’ll often find yourself choosing between fulfilling official duties or chasing a personal lead. Neglecting police work can lead to disciplinary actions, while focusing too much on pleasing superiors might cause you to miss key narrative moments.

There’s also a morality system at play. You can choose to be an upstanding officer, a dirty cop on the take, or something in between. Accept bribes from store owners or gangsters, or turn them down and risk retaliation. Every choice has consequences, and Jack’s reputation with various factions determines how they interact with him.

Strategies of Beat Cop:

Prioritise objectives: You’ve always got things to do in Beat Cop, as our introduction above makes very clear. Make sure you complete your main objectives from your notepad each day though – listed in the exclamation mark tab – as the other stuff can always wait.

Don’t make rash decisions: You work from 8am to 6pm, but when you’re talking with shop-owners and the like the clock stops ticking. So with that in mind don’t feel you need to rush through conversations, especially as this might mean you miss a detail that could be very important further down the line.

Factor in the factions: One of the most important elements of the game are the three factions that populate the district – Police, Mob, and the Crew. Having a bad reputation with just one can see your career as a beat cop being very brief indeed. So make sure you stay in all of their good books, as it can open up several new exciting possibilities – including those of the less legal kind, if you’re so inclined.

Train yourself up: You’ll find you’ll be rushing around a lot early on to complete all your objectives, but don’t worry – this is nigh-on unavoidable. This is because you’ll have low stamina when you start off, and you’ll need to run around lot to boost this – as well as make sure you eat in a few of the food outlets on the street.

Free food: There are a lot of places you can eat at of course, but because money is tight – due to the alimony payments you have to make – you may prefer to rely on the free breakfasts you can grab at Moonwalk café. Doughnuts are something you can get for nothing as from the shop near the church too.

Like a boss: Make sure you take on board everything your sergeant says, as he’ll often give you new tasks to do – and often the objectives can be easy to misunderstand. So you could be asked to hand out a certain amount of parking tickets for instance, but only for a certain offence – such as running down the meter or broken headlights.

Pretty good, it's a beat cop version of paper's please if that makes sense. You go about your days as a beat cop on one street, giving out tickets, stopping crime and helping out the community.Similar to Paper's Please, you have a limited time until the game ends at which point you will get an ending that is based off the choices you've made. So far i've unlocked two different endings but i enjoy the variety so far and am excited to see more. I didn't get the ultimate good ending but i was still able to get some form of a happy ending which surprised me as these types of games often give you only 1 good ending and a multitude of bad endings. So it's nice to know that i can avoid those even if i didn't have a perfect playthrough.The game does use some heavy words and racial themes due to the time period that it takes place in. Personally i'm fine with it since it fits the period and they don't overdo it (imo) but do beware since those aspects are in this game, so if you're someone who gets uncomfortable with that, maybe consider skipping this game or watching a playthrough first.Overall, a good solid simple game with a solid replay value that'll be sure to make your time worthwhile.

Beat Cop is an ok retro-themed game, inspired by 80's classic buddy cop or crime movies. I give this a pass just because it seems like a decent game but I have no more intention of playing it as it's just not for me. Gameplay is simple - it's basically a beat cop simulator, you write tickets, you deal with small time theft, you help out the neighborhood etc. etc. It's boring and a bit monotonous, but I can see why someone would like this.I think this game will mostly be appreciated by older audience that grew up with similar types of games, but it's just not for me.
