With the help of game optimization features, these classic games will have clearer graphics and smoother gameplay, allowing players to relive their childhood memories. The game also provides players with many hidden features, not only supporting more cheat codes but also recreating the original game's button controls. Players can use a gamepad to control the game, freely configuring different button layouts for different actions, thus enjoying a comfortable gaming experience.

Internet Play (Pro Feature): Up for some long-distance competition? With the pro version, you can fire up games online, as long as your router supports UPnP and you’re connected directly.

Features of M64Plus FZ:

Improved Graphics: The emulator boosts the graphics of the game with upscaling, resulting in more defined and crisp detail when playing. That means you’ll be able to play your favorite N64 games with clearer visuals and higher resolutions.

Optimized Performance Settings: Play lag-free games and enjoy smooth gameplay. The application is designed to allow the gameplay to function smoothly regardless of whether you have a lower-spec device or not, ensuring that a wider number of users can still play the game.

N64 ROM Compatibility: It has a wide romsupport, meaning you are not limited by compatibility on the classics you can play. It allows for more freedom of just enjoying your library without having to deal with hardware constraints.

Customizable Gamepad Layout: Set your layout & button size on the screen based on your comfort level. The flexibility allows you to play your games for driving hours without fatigue.

Support for External Controllers: The emulator also works with external gamepads and Bluetooth controllers to create a more classic gaming experience. A controller connection can also be a better comfort and art for playing.

Useful Tips of M64Plus FZ:

Select a game, then settings, then advanced, uncheck "use default count per operation", then below it change count per operation to 1. This gives you a much higher frame rate on any game whose frame rate is uncapped. It took Goldeneye from 12-18 FPS to 30-60 FPS on my measly Snapdragon 632. Not sure if this is the limit or if it would be even better with a better device. This is mainly because I'm not sure how this works exactly, it's not quite an internal CPU overclock because it doesn't cause some certain games to run fast like CPU overclock does in ePSXe, and frame rate gets WORSE on 1 than on higher numbers if you have a low end device.

For Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie: select the game, then settings, then cheats, then check 60 FPS. And boom, buttery smooth frame rate on two of the more demanding N64 titles, no romhack required. None of the other 40 N64 games on my phone have this option in cheats, but it's always worth a look if you are playing a very obscure title.

For Goldeneye & Perfect Dark: select profile, then controller, then "+", and name it "Goldeneye & Perfect Dark". Map the right analog stick on your controller to the analog stick, map the left analog stick on your controller to the C buttons, and map the Z button to right trigger. Map everything else as usual. In the in-game menu for both games, select the 1.2 control scheme, and switch the default looking mechanic in the adjacent menu so it's not inverted. Now for both games, select the game, then settings, then controller, then controller 1 profile, then select "Goldeneye & Perfect Dark". Congratulations, now you have standard dual-analog first person shooter controls! Optional: if you're a pro, you can turn off auto aim now that aiming is not an absolute chore. But realize it will be harder than console shooters because they use aim assist without telling you. However, it's far less "enthusiastic" than Goldeneye & Perfect Dark's auto aim.

If you have the CPU for it, I find it's better to set to native resolution rather than choose one specifically, especially if you are going to stretch the image to fit the phone. Even if you know your screen is "720p", it's not going to be the exact same dimensions as your phone. This could be a placebo effect but it seems better to me.

If you're running into bugs or crashes, try selecting profiles, then emulation, then select a new profile. Sometimes you don't even necessarily need to use a lower end profile.

Player Comments of M64Plus FZ:

In the description it tells you that this emulator can be yours for free, and it even says where. That being said, donate, it's worth the $.99! You can customize it so it works best on your device, and this is the solution to my desire to play some of the games from my childhood. Only downside is bluetooth controllers cause a major delay between button press and input, so old school super smash Bros is out of the question, at least multiplayer, that is.

If you're going to put ads in the free version, you need to remove barriers to moving to the paid version. Configuration, save games, and controller profiles all need to transfer automatically when the user upgrades. Otherwise it just makes them regret paying. It also wouldn't hurt to include some new feature with the ads version to make it worth updating the app. For example, being able to long-press on a title and make a home screen shortcut to it.

Thanks developer, just found the option to turn the screen. Working great now! Can't make it render "upside down". I need my phone with the top oriented right when playing because I use a USB gamepad (GameSir X2) attached to the bottom. The game always renders one way, making the image upside down when playing, and I can't simply flip the whole thing because the shoulder buttons would be on the bottom. Don't know if there is such an option, but I couldn't find it.

App works fantastic. Haven't had a rom yet that didn't work. I'm able to use my Xbox one controller and it works perfect after setting up a profile. I just wish I could "reset" a game without losing all progress. For example Mario kart you have to turn off the console after the start cup. But here I can't do it. And if I could actually get a 60fps. For whatever reason it doesn't go higher. Other than that, just awesome.

Final words:

M64Plus FZ suits users who want to play classic titles on a phone or tablet without complex setup. It provides essential tools to configure video and input, and it focuses on practical controls and settings. However, performance and compatibility vary by device and game, so some titles may not run or may show glitches. Before you download M64Plus FZ Emulator, expect to try different settings to find what works best.
