Gameplay of NBA 2K21:

MyCareer: MyCareer, a major part of the series, returned as one of the available game modes. MyCareer is a career mode in which the player creates their own customizable basketball player and plays through their basketball career. Players may make a male or female player, although female player creation is exclusively available on next-gen consoles. The Neighborhood also returns to MyCareer, as 2K Beach, in which players can customize their wardrobe, get haircuts and tattoos, and purchase boosts. They can also do workouts and run drills to improve their character's attributes at their current team's practice facility. Progress in MyCareer may not carry over across generations, due to some changes made exclusively for next-gen.

MyTeam: In MyTeam, players collect cards of NBA players (current or past) to put on their team. This game mode has packs (or loot boxes) that can be purchased with Virtual Currency (VC) or My Team Points (MT). Players can also buy cards from each other at the auction house using VC or MT.

Franchise mode: NBA 2K21 features both MyLeague and MyGM from previous games, where the player can take the helm of a franchise and fully simulate an NBA season while making trades, drafting, and playing games with their teams. Compared to prior titles, eighth-generation console releases of NBA 2K21 were left with little changes for their staple franchise modes, MyLeague and MyGM. Outside of roster changes, the main changes focuses with MyLeague Online where certain users can be given different admin controls. WNBA teams were also given more representation as players were now able to play through a whole season with all 12 teams.

Hot Zones matter a great deal for all shooting methods in NBA 2K21. Even when aiming or timing is off, shooting from the blue areas of the court can still get your player an easy bucket. It may help to go into 2KU with some of your team's top athletes just to see where their Hot Zones are.

Pull down on the right stick. Note that the meter starts close to the center, not to the left or right.

After pulling back, tweak the stick's position ever so slightly to the left or right based on where the high-percentage area is. You genuinely need to have very steady hands to aim your shot correctly.

When using Pro Stick Aiming you don't have to release the shot. Just pull down on the stick, adjust the aim and your character will take care of the rest.

You don't necessarily have to use the right stick to shoot. It's still possible to shoot with square (PS4) or X (Xbox). This changes the shot meter into something that may feel a little more familiar. To get the advantage of a boost, turn off the shot meter.

You can also go into control options and disable shot aiming altogether. This makes your Pro Stick function a bit closer to its NBA 2K20 state. Some timing and specific shots will still feel a bit different, but this is about as close as it gets to actually reverting the changes.

If you really want to make NBA 2K feel closer to arcade street ball, you can also disable shot timing in favor of a player's real-time percentage. This is the simplest shooting method and should only be used by those who truly hate sim basketball.

I've been an avid NBA fan since I could fathom the idea of basketball. When I was a child, I had picked up 2K8 and played it on the PS3, it was my first 2K game and I was instantly a fan of the series. Years have gone by, various 2k titles have come and gone, some better than others... some worse, but then there was 2k21. 2k21, was supposed to be 'the next big thing'. 'Redefined from the ground up with the power of next gen consoles', yet the next gen edition isn't even available to those who have devices twofold the power of these new consoles?Every single year, it's the same game, over and over again, empty promises, and very very small changes to the MyCareer, and gamemode selection, i.e narrative, roster/depth chart changes, and character nicknames. The same commentary dialogue has been used for a decade, the same sloppy animations have been used for half a decade, they even took out the Halftime Show when they moved from 20 to 21. I thought we were supposed to add assets from one title to the next, not remove them?I want to like this game, I want to like this series, I want to so bad, because they're the only people that can make it. They have the funding and licenses, and they know people will pick up their POS copy-and-paste title year after year, because we have no choice.2k21 is a redundancy; another iteration in the bleak year-by-year cycle. It's a slap in the face to any real basketball fan. It's genuinely a waste of time to purchase this on a PC for anything less than an on-sale price, and that's being generous. At this point, go back. Play older titles that you know will bring you joy. There is no sign of a fix for this franchise coming in the near future, and it's apparent they do not care for the PC community.
