New mountable games

With community effort and permission from the respective game developers, 2 new games are now available to be mounted in Garrys Mod: Black Mesa and Military Conflict: Vietnam!

As with other mountable games, you will need to own them on Steam first, which will enable players to use maps and models from these games in Sandbox and other gamemodes.

HUD Improvements

Some default HUD elements received some polish: the weapon selector, damage indicators, health and ammo displays.

The ammo HUD now correctly displays ammo for certain modded weapon types that use secondary clips, the default weapon selector can now display more slots and scroll weapon selection when there are too many weapons equipped to fit on the screen.

The HUD now also scales better at 4K resolution, preventing certain elements such as Sandbox notifications and voice chat from overlapping the ammo HUD.

New content & content fixes

The Combine APC is now a built-in vehicle, right in the spawnmenu, fully driveable by the player.

There are also numerous bug fixes to existing models for various issues such as props becoming pitch black when resting on ground, fire effects not displaying correctly and spawning wrong gib models when broken.

Network protocol changes

This update brings significant under-the-hood changes to the game's networking, enabling faster network transfer speeds to reduce server join times, and removing a whole host of unnecessary networking done by various entities, hopefully reducing overall bandwidth usage, especially on initial player spawn.

This update also switches many game systems to use double precision time, which should help servers to not need to restart or change maps as often and improve overall game feel after playing for a while on the same map.

Do I really have to write this review? I am just one in thousands of people who wrote a positive reveiw for Garrys Mod. Chances are, this review will never convince someone to buy Garrys Mod. It'll just be lost in the 100,000 positive reviews out there. Well, here I go anyway.

"Where do I start?" This is the question asked by anyone playing Gmod for their first time. It's also my question that I ask about this review I am writing. Hmm...

The gameplay...the gameplay...hmm... Well, there's singleplayer sandbox. You can do...uh, whatever you want really. Just addon a few addons, and you can be entertained for hours. Battle NPCs, make cool scenes for cool screenshots, explore maps, be a superhero (spiderman addon!), and much, much, much, much- you get my point, right? Almost all content is user-generated. Make your own content! Multiplayer. In Multiplayer Gmod you can roleplay. I'm talking normal RP (DarkRP), Military RP, Star Wars RP, etc, etc. In multiplayer Gmod, you can battle, prophunt (yay), hide 'n seek, and much, much, more.

Graphics? I'll rate the graphics...drumroll please... 7/10. This game is and older game. Came out in 2006. I guess the graphics are good for 2006, and people enjoy the game and don't complain much about the graphics, but I'm not gonna lie, they are outdated and look old. It's not 2006 anymore.

Hear the bullets flying. The zombies growling. The people chatting. The boxes jumping... The sound in this game is great! Every sound is loud and clear, and there are a varitey of sounds.

Play this game. Play it again. Play it some more. Play some now, and play some later. Play it over and over. Play it as long as you want.

My Personal opinion. Get this game. Now. Get Gmod on sale or not. I'm not gonna stop playing it for a while and I'm already at 50+ hours of playtime. I love this game! WAIT! Before you go and buy this, then you wonder why there are all the missing maps and errors in most games, get Counter Strike: Source, so ALL the textures are supported. You need it to play MOST multiplayer games.

How do I create a custom spawnlist?

Right click on the left of the Q menu and create a new category.

Right click on the newly created category, from here you can rename it, change its icon, or delete it. You can also create more categories within it.

Once you name your category, click the save button at the top.

From there, you find the props you would like to add into the category, select them by click-dragging over them, and then drag them into it. You need to drag them over the category name, and then to the right into the spawnicon area.

To add headers into your list, right click on the category name (or click that little [...] icon on the bottom) and click edit, then click and drag the icon into your list. Double click it to rename it.

Make sure to click again when you are satisfied.

Why do I keep seeing purple and black objects? Big red error signs?

If you're seeing black and purple, you are missing the texture for a certain object or part of the map. The big red error signs are the Source Engine's way of telling you that you are missing a game model.Both issues can be caused by faulty installations, failed downloads of addons or games, or simply missing certain addons or mountable games that the map or the server is using that you do not have. Validating your game installation (and any mountable games) can fix this issue sometimes.

What about my old addons?

Your addon may have been copied from Garrys 12 to 13. It is most likely now incompatible. Garrys Mod 13 introduced a massive number of changes, most of which render addons created for Garrys Mod 12 incompatible with 13. Please make sure your addon is up to date.

I installed a new Garrys Mod addon, why do I keep getting errors?

You should report these errors to the developer of the addon, along with any information you can provide to help recreate the errors. This will help the developer fix the errors. Do not ask developers of Garrys Mod to fix errors with addons, as they did not create said addons and therefore have no power over fixing them.

I got an update and now my game doesn't work properly, what shall I do?

Sometimes an update to Garrys Mod can cause addons to break. Developers of Garrys Mod may provide a fix for this, but otherwise it is up to the developer to fix the addon, especially if the addon was improperly coded in the first place.
