How to play

Open the game and select a save slot, then choose a chapter or episode from the story screen. The opening scenes introduce the setting and the current character’s goal.

Use the on-screen stick or directional buttons to move, and tap the interaction prompts to pick up items, read notes, or activate levers. Follow the visual cues to proceed through each area.

When you find objects, check your inventory and combine or place them where needed. If you get stuck, look around for contextual hints, signage, or sound cues that point to the next step.

Call on Walt when an object is out of reach or a switch is behind a barrier. Tap the dog icon, point to the target, and wait for the action to complete before advancing, especially near hazards.

In stealth sections, watch patrol routes, stay behind cover, and move when enemies look away. Between segments, open the collectibles or history menu to read optional background articles without breaking story flow.

Keep An Eye Out For Sparkles

Despite being a point-and-click affair, Valiant Hearts: The Great War has a lot of collectibles that act as keepsakes. It's the largest optional mission in the game, with almost every chapter having some hidden items to find. Based on the art style, it can sometimes be difficult to distinguish interactable objects from the background, but collectibles aren't like that.

Pick Up What You Can

Most of the goals in each chapter revolve around finding a specific item and either using, giving, or trading it. These items come in two variants: Key and consumable. A key item may be something like a Handle while a consumable item may be something like a rock.

Prepare For Medical Puzzles

Anna the Nurse offers some of the most stressful puzzles. As Anna, you'll frequently find yourself in scenarios where people will need help getting to safety and must be treated for injuries. They're not necessarily difficult, but they come with a time constraint.

Amazing game that I thoroughly enjoyed playing. The controls were a bit sticky for me playing on my phone but that didn't take away from my experience. How unique and creative to have a game about WWI that carries a message we all can still learn from today. It's so much more than just a "war" game. It's about friendship, equality, courage, and love. I also liked learning things about WWI that I never knew before.

It's an amazing game. I find it nostalgic. The gameplay is comforting and provides detail into how eerily subtle life would have felt like during and after the war. I watched a youtuber (Jacksepticeye) play Valiant Hearts: The Great War when I was 11, since then it has remained among my favorite games I've experienced. Thank you for bringing this to life. A great continuation of the story from the first game and a must play. I hope we get this ported to PC sometime where it will flourish and hopefully we can get a proper Valiant Hearts 2 set in WW2 as teased by the og game. Only complaint of this is no achievements, no point to get the collectibles, and the 30fps feels laggy at times.
