Introduction

Homecourt is a training app designed specifically for basketball enthusiasts. By capturing a user’s movements and physical adjustments during their shot, the app not only reveals their current skill level but also provides tailored training recommendations based on the footage, helping them improve their basketball technique. The platform features interactive training modules and coaching programs developed in collaboration with various star players. Users can compete against these stars or their own friends, making the learning process both engaging and effective. As a user’s basketball skills advance, they may even catch the eye of scouts, opening doors to opportunities such as participating in training camps and tryouts.

Features of Homecourt:

Train smarter: HomeCourt uses your device's camera to capture your moves and stats as you train. This allows you to see your true skill level. You'll receive in-depth data and analytics that break down every session. HomeCourt calculates metrics like shooting percentage, accuracy, release time, dribble speed, and vertical jump. You can even track your heart rate with Apple Watch and save your data to HealthKit.

Engage in fun, interactive drills: Using HomeCourt feels more like playing a video game than training. The AR-powered experience immerses you in live-action scenarios with virtual targets, audio cues, bonus levels, points, and badges. It's an engaging way to practice skills and stay motivated.

Compete with friends: Don't train alone - compete virtually with friends, family, and teammates. Join a virtual team or create your own for free. Challenge others to HomeCourt activities using the time-shifted "Battle Mode" for head-to-head matchups. Collect trophies, badges, and coins as you compete in battles and level up together.

Showcase your skills: Participate in unique showcase activities and even get discovered by the NBA. If you opt-in to NBA Global Scout, you may receive invitations to select NBA tryouts, camps, tournaments, and showcases. Build your profile on HomeCourt and share your progress with coaches and scouts.

Learn from the pros: HomeCourt is an official partner of the NBA and provides access to training drills and instructions from NBA and WNBA athletes. You can learn from their moves and even compete against them in interactive challenges.

Shot Science of Homecourt:

Shot Type: It tracks 4 shot types including Free Throws, Lay Ups, Catch & Shoot and Off The Dribbles. (And if the app can’t determine the Shot Type, it’s listed as Unclassified)

Release Time: That is the time measured from the user catching the ball or picking up the ball after dribbling, to releasing the ball. (A faster release time means there is a better chance a user can get a shot off before a defender closes out.)

Release Angle: That is the angle of a user’s follow through as the ball is heading towards the basket. (A higher angle means the user was putting more arc into the shot.)

Leg Angle: The angle of the leg bend when shooting. (A lower angle means the user was bending lower and using more legs, while a higher angle means the user was standing more straight up.)

Speed: The speed of the user moving into their shot; that includes the speed of their lay up, and speed of their movement into their off the dribble.

Vertical: That is the height of the user’s jump on their shot.

User Reviews of Homecourt:

This app is so awesome(and it’s Free for most of the drills and stuff you can do)! It’s not just a basketball training app, It has fun agility games that get you moving that use augmented reality with something as simple as your phone camera or iPad. I started my boys on that(ages 4 and 6), and now they want to explore the other apps like the ball handling drills. It gets my kids practicing exercise activities and ball handling skills that they haven’t wanted to do in favor of just shooting the basketball. The game based approach with points, competitions and leaderboards have ignited something in my competitive 6 year old, and he just plays this until the batteries on the device he’s playing on die. I love it because it helps him stay active, it’s fun for him because it’s a game, and he is drastically improving his basketball skills as a result as well. I also coach a youth basketball team and the app has a really cool Teams feature where you can invite your players into a team you create, and they can see each other’s progress or even compete against each other. I’ve sent this out to the parents of my team and I hope we have folks joining and playing along. I cannot recommend this app enough for the workouts it provides and the fun, game based skills development that it has. Thank you app creators, you are amazing and have created something truly phenomenal!

Our family had to move last July due to my husband’s work. Our middle son was about to start his Freshman year at a new high school when we learned he needed major surgery on his spine. He missed quite a lot of school & the entire basketball season. After 6 months of recovery he was finally released by his surgeon to return to basketball workouts! ... The next week we were in lockdown for COVID19. We now know there will be no more school this year. This app popped up last week & it is just what he needed to provide some guidance for his socially distant workouts! We are trying to convince his coach to set up the entire team with it. One request for a future update would be in regards to leaderboards... it is great to have a “players like me” option, but it would be even better for that to be more specific. (in addition to “male” & “high school” - could you add an age range and HEIGHT?) My son is approaching 6’8” & he needs to work on dribbling & agility. The opportunity to compare his work, hustle & progress with other “bigs” his age would be incredibly informative! Or to even just have videos from college &/or pro 6’6”+ players as it’s own category would be super! Also - keep those instructional videos coming! They are great! Thanks so much for this app! It’s really helping players who are missing time on the court during this pandemic!
