The game begins at your trial, where a judge will sentence you, and then a guard will take you to your cell. After that, you’re free to explore the prison.The controls of Hard Time are nearly identical to other Mdickie games: a virtual d-pad on the left side of the screen and action buttons on the right. Like most open-world games, you can do many different things depending on the items in your hands or nearby, including punch, pick up items, talk with other characters, and much more. For example, if you pick up a hamburger, you can eat it, while if you're holding a gun, you can fire it.Hard Time has an entirely open premise. Your prisoner will start the game with a sentence of a few days, but many more days can be added to it depending on your behavior. For example, if you attack a guard you’ll be sent back to trial, and will most likely get more time added to your sentence. While in the prison, you have the freedom to do anything and interact with any character.Hard Time is an entertaining action game with the same general premise as other Mdickie games. Basically, it's a sandbox game set in a prison in which the prisoners and wardens are constantly fighting.

In the game, players will have the chances to experience the life of a prisoner in the chaotic and fun prisons of Hard Time. Find yourself being convicted for all kinds of crimes and put inside the prisons for a number of days.

During the time, your ultimate goal is to maintain a good spirit by keeping all your essential stats relatively safe. These include your strength, agility, intellect, and reputation, which are all important stats that can significantly affect your life in the prison.

Keep your spirit high if you don’t want to become out of control and cause your characters to be temporally incontrollable, which would cause some serious problems. You can sleep to recover your health and mental conditions. However, you won’t be allowed to sleep all the time, so it’s important to find other ways to cheat your way.
