Gameplay of Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm:

Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm retains many of the gameplay elements from earlier installments of the Ultimate Ninja series. However, Ultimate Ninja Storm allows players to fight in three-dimensional environments, as opposed to the two-dimensional planes in previous games. The other games were much like Street Fighter II (a 2D fighting game that emerged in the 1990's), mainly because of the lack of plot and mostly made for the fighting aspect.

One of the new features introduced to the series in Ultimate Ninja Storm is "Awakening Mode", a transformation that can be activated when a player loses a certain amount of health during a match. The health requirement for each character differs based on how powerful the transformation is. Once activated, the character gains new abilities, speed, and stronger attacks. A few of the characters in the game gain entirely new movesets after transforming. With the d-pad, players can use preset items during a match that either damage the opponent or provide various status effects like increasing attack power, or lowering the opponent's defense. Players are also able to customize their character's jutsu and select two support characters to use in a match. Returning to the game from previous installments is "jutsu clash" mode, which is initiated if both players activate their special attack at the same time. During this mode, both players have to press the corresponding button as fast as possible in order to knock away their opponent.[4] Each character has an "ultimate jutsu". If it hits, both players either input button commands, mash a certain button, or spin the analogue stick the fastest during the time limit. If the attacking player wins, the ultimate will hit, typically taking away around a third to a full bar of the opponent's health. If the defending player wins, they will escape without major damage. Each character also has an "ultimate impact", where if the player holds down the melee button, the character controlled will charge up a very powerful strike. If it hits, it zooms in on the opponent's face taking a heavy blow in a short, cinematic close-up.

The game includes 25 playable characters, each of which can also be used as a support character during battle.Ten additional support-only characters are available as free downloadable content released over the five-month period that followed the game's release. Additional downloadable content include alternative costumes, and new missions.

In the Story Mode, these finishes are downright necessary to get the best ranking for every mission.

Awakenings Make Battles Flashier And More Memorable: Given the powerups that many characters have enjoyed over the course of Naruto, it's easy to see why Awakenings have become so pThese Awakenings should be saved for the most opportune moment around, especially due to the time constraints of most Awakenings. They can only be triggered once a player's health has been brought down quite a bit, which makes for a great way to change strategies and unleash some heat on the opposition.

Charge Your Chakra At Every Given Opportunity: Chakra is what makes the world go round in Naruto. So, it's no surprise that this source of energy plays a critical role in Ultimate Ninja StConsidering the role that this energy plays, it's imperative to charge Chakra every single time players get a window to do so. Building this energy source up is critical to unleash certain powerful moves, including the Ultimate Jutsu that have already been discussed.

Make Sure Jutsu Don't Miss: The worst feeling in the world is when players accumulate a ton of chakra and unleash a powerful Jutsu, only for the attack to miss an opponent by a hair's breadth. It's a frustrating feeling, and players are better off avoiding it by just being patient and seeking out the best time to strike.This is especially true in the case of the Ultimate Jutsu, which is a downright crime to waste. When playing Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, players are better off reading their enemy's movements so that they can figure out at what point their vulnerability can be exposed.

For my fellow completionists, achievements are a bit annoying but in a fun challenging way other than the least completed ones, those are bugged on PC; good news is there's a workaround when going for any of the "Knockout an opponent in a specific way achievements" the game dects the controller as player 2 for some reason, simply start the game with no controller, change keyboard controls (L to get seetings on title screen) to make combat easier, go into Free Battle mode, change it from P1 vs COM to P1 vs P2, and plug in controller for P2. Additionally, it's important to note that this is one of the early adaptations done by CyberConnect but it still tells the story in an enjoyable to play-through manner.Not too related to the review but important to note is that for my experience, I played my first 41 hours of this back in 2020 during the pandemic I didn't complete the last 4 achievements until 2026 as at the time there was no workaround soi my memory on most of the annoying quest elements is a bit vague. Shoutout to reddit for finding the workaround.

The OG storm game and the only open-world game at that too. Naruto: Ultimate Ninja STORM has it's ups and downs. Overall, I liked this game even though it is missing some key developments from the early start of the series like the "Zabuza Arc". If you are a fan the series you'd like this game.
