Gameplay:

At its core, Shovel Knight is a 2D side-scrolling platformer with a heavy focus on exploration, combat, and puzzle-solving. This is my favorite platformer of all time and I've played a lot of platformers. I originally played it on 3DS When it was simply Shovel Knight and it has so much extremely high quality content in it now it could be nearly overwhelming. I recommend not trying to play through all this game has to offer at once or you will be here for a very long time.

Indeed a trove of treasure to dig through. There are multiple good and great experiences here with a ton of charming and well designed gameplay. I didn't think I'd be a fan of these types of platformers once before, but now I've been enlightened thanks to Shovel Knight.Apparently they released this as just Shovel Knight and then updated it over time as per the Kickstarter knight DLC stretch goals to add the other knights and their campaigns? You get so much retro 8-bit goodness here and it's best to get this collection instead of the games separately since Plague of Shadows isn't available on its own. All these campaigns tell a story that connects them to each other so it's important to play them all I say.

i bought this game for my son for his 10th birthday. unfortunately i lost him in a custody battle with my wife a few days before that day, so i ended up having to play this game while downing several gallons worth of fireball mixed with elmer's glue and grieving over the fact i'd never see my son again. i also came to the realization that i don't actually have an ex-wife or son and that i might have some early onset dementia. cool game though.

At $14.99, I wasn't ready to purchase Shovel Knight. After all, there are AAA titles from well known companies that go for less. I've played through more NES classics than I can remember. Bubble Bobble, Castlevania, Contra (sans the Konami Code, you scrubs :-P), Mega Man 1-6, Metal Storm, Super C, and The Legend of Zelda are a few that come to my mind while trying to make a quick list of some titles I've completed. I wish I could tell you that I beat Battletoads, but I'd be lying. The prospect of reliving the genre with a new game sounded too good to be true. I've played newer "retro" games, but even when good, they are rarely able to resurrect the experience the older titles.When I heard about the release of Plague of Shadows, it wasn't enough for me to buy this game. I thought, "Playable boss character? So they probably replaced the main character's sprite and gave him a projectile." So I kept waiting to catch sale. I finally purchased it at $10.04, and it still took me months to get around to playing the game. After 30 seconds into the first stage I felt like an idiot for sleeping on this title for so long. If Shovel Knight had existed during the NES era, it would be the type of cartridge people would be happy to pay $75.00+ for today.

Have you always dreamed of being a brave knight? This game will dive you into the world of 8-bit graphics and classic gameplay. The task you have is simple, go through the levels and destroy the enemies in your path, while using your weapons and by the way it’s a shovel! Hence the name of this game went. It is worth noting that for the game you will need a gamepad because there is no built-in control in it.
