Introduction

Megabonk is a third-person action survival game with Roguelike elements. Players freely explore randomly generated maps, using various weapons to attack hordes of enemies and earn more silver coins and experience points to unlock and upgrade heroes and items, thus dealing greater damage. Each character has a unique design and over 70 different items, offering players a wide range of possibilities. As the game progresses, players will face increasing numbers and strengths of enemies, requiring vigilance and agile movement to survive longer.

Features of Megabonk:

Procedurally generated arenas: MEGABONK creates new arena layouts every run, so routes, choke points, and pick up spots shift constantly. You read the map on the fly and adjust your path to manage space, control swarms, and reach resources safely. This keeps each attempt fresh and rewards quick planning.

Automatic combat focused on movement: Your character attacks automatically, so you concentrate on dodging, spacing, and timing. Clear sightlines and safe paths matter more as enemies stack up. This design puts your attention on precise movement and makes every small decision count under pressure.

Random upgrades and build synergies: Leveling up presents upgrade choices that range from common to very rare. Picking complementary effects can create powerful synergies that define your run. You adapt to what drops, test combinations, and lean into builds that fit the threats you face.

Weapons, abilities, and power ups with unique traits: MEGABONK offers a wide selection of tools that behave differently, from crowd control options to single target damage. You learn how each one interacts with the arena and your chosen upgrades. Between runs you can try new loadouts to discover what suits your play style.

Bosses, scaling difficulty, and global leaderboards: Boss encounters force careful positioning and sharp movement choices. Difficulty ramps the longer you last, which pushes risk management and timing. After each attempt, global leaderboards track time survived, total kills, and combo performance so you can compare runs.

Strategies of Megabonk:

If you aren't sure what to do, pick the highest tier option.

always be moving and collecting interactables. Even the pots give you XP, gold, or power ups.

For weapon upgrades, look at what the upgrade is first. Generally projectile speed and size doesn't matter, but bounce, damage, and Projectile count are massive! Make sure the upgrade will actually benefit the weapon much. Purple projectile speed upgrade <<< green bounce upgrade.

Wait until the black elite ghost enemies start spawning before going through the portal to the next area. You can get a lot of extra XP and silver during that time.

The first tick of shield, Crit chance, extra jumps, and projectile count from charge towers are insanely strong! 5 shield will quickly recharge and extra damage from that attack won't bite into your health. Going to 1% -> 5% Crit chance is a 400% increase. Extra jumps and jump height are also great to stay in the air and avoid damage since most boss attacks are grounded.

I like to save the paid chests until round 2 or 3 so I have more luck to get better items.

use your banish on the golden shield. It's really not useful and you would way rather get other items.

Learn how to use the difficulty stat to assist in ramp for broken builds. Of you're absolutely stomping and there are no better options at the shrines then it's worth taking over something like gold unless you're robinette. Harder mobs means more gold and more xp, which in turn means more levels and more items.

Also, you really need to stop skipping levels with flat damage increases to your weapons wubby Seeing levels in the late game for something like 20->25 (+5)dmg is insane! that's a flat damage of 25% so now you apply all your %dmg modifiers to that do even though you're only increasing the flat damage by 5, the final resultant damage is much more significant than that. if you had chosen maybe 4 or 5 levels of that flat damage you'd be doing many times more damage than you were, it wouldn't just be an increase of 20 damage. I mean at 500hp you had +100% dmg from the ring (20%dmg/100hp) alone so the increased damage would be minimum 40 (+20flat-dmg*200%dmg-modifier)

Player Comments of Megabonk:

This game is so addicting. I've even gotten my non-gamer girlfriend addicted to this. Its a simple concept of just avoiding being hit, which makes it perfect for her, the less buttons she has to press, the easier it is to keep her playing without frustration. The idea behind the stuff in the game (item names, descriptions, etc) is genius and hilarious. This is a def must try from me.

Megabonk - Vampire Survivors in 3D with a plethora of weapons, modifications, items, buffs and boosts.Basically the title. It's Vampire Survivors in 3D. That's it, that's the game. Can get overwhelming trying to find everything on a map, but once you push for movement speed with certain heroes, then it's easy as pie.Addictive, but can get stale rather fast, but that could also just be me.

I haven't found the time to return to the game, but I see they've added a new level, and it's clearly receiving new updates. I've altered my review slightly to reflect that. Please note that this may still not reflect the current state of the game, so play for yourself! I'm sure it's been developing nicely since I last played. ~16 hours was my time of initial review. This is a very fun game, and after playing nearly 16 hours thus far, I can say I've gotten my money's worth. You can see many of the positive reviews already; the game is fun, bouncy, and when things pop off, it's very satisfying. There are several notable flaws in the title, though, that you will run into if you play for an extended period of grind. These criticisms aren't meant to say the game is bad or anything, far from it, but no game is perfect and there's plenty to improve upon. I really like this game and want to see it become the best it can be.- You will hit a wall. The game will become fairly grindy after some hours of play. You expect this out of survivorslike titles usually, but the wall doesn't feel very good in this game.- You will, very often, die within the first 3-5 minutes of a run just due to bad RNG. Even with the option to turn unwanted items off, and getting things like Skips and Banishes, these still /consume/ your current level-up opportunity which means no power boost, and needing more exp to make that up will ensure you rapidly fall behind and become too weak to kill enemies for exp in the first place.- The lack of manual aiming hurts the game once you get used to the flow of gameplay. This is a common feature in many survivorslikes for a reason; relying entirely on the game to decide what to hit is good for accessibility, but can become a massive pain point. You can and will die to the targeting system targeting random enemies, and it stings a little when you know you could have gotten out of an encounter if your character would just target the dang enemy on your tail. While the recent "Nearest Enemy" tweak helps to alleviate this, it still isn't as good as manual aiming. All my criticisms aside, this is a genuinely good game. I think with proper QOL updates and maybe some balance tweaks, it could be even better. If you don't mind the occasional frustration and are willing to take a lot of breaks to prevent the burnout from getting to you, this is absolutely worth a pick-up.

FAQs of Megabonk:

How do you unlock characters in Megabonk?

Most of the 21 characters unlock by completing in-game objectives — clearing a stage tier, leveling a specific weapon, or defeating a boss. Fox and Sir Oofie are available from the very start. See the full unlock guide for every character's exact requirement.

Who are the best starting characters in Megabonk?

Fox and Sir Oofie are the two characters you have from the beginning, so they're where every new player starts. Pick either one, learn the core loop, then work toward unlocking the rest.

How many characters, weapons, items and tomes are in Megabonk?

As of game version v1.0.64 there are 21 characters, 31 weapons, 86 items and 26 tomes, plus 6 maps. You can browse them all in the database.

How do weapon evolutions work?

Weapons evolve into stronger forms once you level them up and meet a specific in-game requirement (often tied to using a weapon or pairing it with the right item). The evolutions page lists the real unlock requirement for every weapon.

What's the difference between weapons, items and tomes?

Weapons are your active attacks and many of them evolve. Items are passive boosters that come in rarities (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic). Tomes are run-long upgrades that shape your whole build. You combine all three each run.

Which map should beginners play first?

Forest is the starting map and the friendliest place to learn the basics before you move on to the harder desert stages and the Graveyard. Clearing stages is also how you unlock more characters and weapons.

Final words:

Megabonk suits players who enjoy roguelikes, survival action, and competitive score-chasing. It’s most rewarding for those who like short yet intense play sessions, whether you’re killing time on a break or grinding to beat your personal record.
