Tropico is a popular strategy game where players take on the role of president of a tropical island, leading their nation to prosperity while maintaining their rule. Players must not only maintain good relations with other countries but also make various decisions within a limited timeframe, such as enacting laws and constructing buildings, to gain the trust of the inhabitants and extend their term. The game also supports a sandbox mode, allowing players to freely customize every aspect of the game, such as designing different characters and giving them unique traits. Players can even use the built-in editor to create different mods and share them in the community, attracting other players to join their adventures.

Gameplay of Tropico:

Regardless of any other stated victory condition, the main goal of any Tropico game is to stay in power. If the island's populace disapproves of the player's actions, they may vote their leader out of office. Individual factions and powers can also end or disrupt El Presidente's rule. Rebels can defeat the army and storm the Presidential palace. If the army is dissatisfied, it can stage a coup d'état.

If "El Presidente" manages to stay in positive view of the Soviet Union and the United States they will supply him with foreign aid money. If either of the Cold War superpowers becomes unhappy with the player's regime, it may launch an invasion to overthrow it. The superpowers may build a military base on Tropico, protecting the island from the other and offering monthly payments. If an army base is established in the country, it may ask for specific tasks, and low satisfaction will lead them to overthrow "El Presidente".

Tropico can be played in two gameplay modes: scenario or custom game/random map. Scenarios are predetermined game conditions with defined goals that must be accomplished in order to win. The game includes several scenarios, each with a stated level of difficulty. Custom games allow virtually all starting conditions to be controlled. The player can customize the map of the island, adjusting its size and steepness to personal preference. Many other aspects of gameplay, such as political and economic difficulty, can also be customized to make the game easier or more difficult. The custom game also allows the player to choose how many game years the simulation will run for (a minimum of 10 years, a maximum of 70 with the game basically run 1950 to 2000), and what conditions will determine victory (if any). The game also includes a tutorial level, which teaches the player the game mechanics and controls of the game.

The player is able to issue a number of governmental edicts, some of which require funding or the availability of particular buildings. Edicts are used to achieve various game effects, from appeasing one of the superpowers by openly praising them, to instating martial law or giving a tax break to the populace.

The game calculates a score for the player at the end of the game. This score is based on a variety of factors, including the happiness of the island's citizens, the health of the island's economy, how much money the player has set aside for their retirement in a Swiss bank account, and the level of difficulty chosen at the start of the game.

Edicts and Laws: You get to decide how Tropico looks and feels by enacting edicts. You can set the media under government control, give everyone healthcare, or silence opposition with a midnight knock on the door.

The Art of the Speech: Charismatic leaders give incredible election speeches and make promises to the people to ensure that they win the election and get to remain in power for a longer time.

Vibrant Island Life: Each citizen is a whole person, not just a number, so they have their own needs, thoughts, political opinions, and even professions. They also live their lives and respond to your policies.

Establish a Stable Foundation: When beginning your reign, focus on building a solid foundation. Construct essential structures like farms, housing, and basic industry. Tropico 6 strategy revolves around gradual expansion, so avoid stretching your resources too thin early on.

Prioritize Food Production: Ensuring your citizens have enough to eat is crucial for their happiness and productivity. Prioritize building farms and other food-producing structures to keep your population well-fed.

Balance Faction Demands: Tropico introduces various factions representing different interests within your population. Balancing their demands is key to maintaining stability. Use the almanac to track faction happiness levels and adjust policies accordingly.

Liberty vs. Happiness: Too much oppression can lead to rebellion, while excessive freedom might cause chaos. Strike a balance between liberty and happiness to keep your citizens content without losing control.

Island Specialization: One of the most significant changes in Tropico 6 is the archipelago setting. Player Comments of Tropico:

The app is exactly as it is marketed. I would guess that there is about 30 percent of the entire game available in this demo, which is enough to have a unique experience, but is unfortunate because the full game costs 12 dollars. That price is likely the reason why there are no adverts within the game, however.

I love Tropico on PC, but this mobile version isn't super playable, at least on my Pixel 8 Pro's resolution. The controls cover too much of the screen and make it difficult to place buildings or interact with things on the map. Still giving five stars for porting this game to mobile devices and allowing us to that purchase outright at a reasonable price, instead of making more microtransaction trash, and for providing this demo to allow us to be test before purchasing.

Awesome game, very enjoyable. Wish I could get the full version, but anyway, the only issue I have is that the ui is kinda big. I would make the ui slightly smaller so it's easier to build and do other stuff.

Respect. Since GRID actually speaking your name I never really knew the name ferral interactive like bioware I now know them as innovators setting a new standard for on device gaming.

This is a great game. It only lack of good graphic. I like the graphic in old tropico game.. This looks like the sims castaway graphic but less quality.. Overall it's good..

Tropico fits players who like management sims, sandbox builders, and political strategy titles. It works best for those who enjoy planning systems, adjusting numbers, and watching a city react to their rules. If running a virtual country sounds fun, this is built for that exact style of play.
