Introduction
Strawberry Shortcake BerryRush is a fun action-packed running game featuring a wide selection of characters. Simply tap to start your run, dodging obstacles while collecting coins and fruit along the way. Players control their characters with easy swipes—up, down, left, or right—to jump, slide, and switch lanes, gathering the ingredients needed to bake delicious cakes. After the run, you can unleash your creativity by using the collected ingredients to decorate cakes with various stickers and text; then, use the in-game camera to share your creations with friends or save them to your device to rack up likes.
Gameplay of Strawberry Shortcake BerryRush:
You run throughout the world of Berry Bitty City, trying to collect up various things while dodging obstacles. Fruit and coins are your main form of income, with the former offering the means with which to bake more cakes and the latter allowing you to unlock new outfits and characters. Controls are typical for the genre with a swipe to the left or right changing your direction, and swipes up and down invoking a jump or slide, respectively. At times you’ll fly through the air as a butterfly or bounce from rainbow ramps, keeping things a little more interesting than ‘just’ running. It’s all fairly responsive and soon enough, you’ll manage to progress quite far.
Strawberry Shortcake BerryRush’s main moment of originality comes through baking cakes. When you pick up fruit, you can put it towards baking cakes that can then be sold for money. You can change around cake recipes, as well as change their stylings and colorings. It’s simply done but it adds a slight amount of variety when compared to just earning coins.
Unlocking new characters also unlocks more food, but expect it to be a slow grind as coins don’t come fast enough for anything better than that. That’s the main issue with Strawberry Shortcake BerryRush: you’re going to have to play it for a long time to get anywhere. It’s not quite charming enough to make that grind seem painless either, so expect it to be unlikely that you’ll ever see everything it has to offer. As a brief and tasty delight though, it’s just fine.

Characters of Strawberry Shortcake BerryRush:
Strawberry Shortcake: A hardworking young woman who runs the Berry Bitty Café and later the Berry Bitty Market. Outgoing and incredibly kind, Strawberry Shortcake is someone whose guidance and opinions are frequently sought after by others.
Orange Blossom: Brave, bold, and adventurous, Orange Blossom is always ready to take on a new challenge. She is a wonderful friend with a lot to offer, especially at Orange Mart.
Lemon Meringue: Always up-to-date on the latest gossip and trends, Lemon Meringue is a cheerful girl who loves her work at the Lemon Salon just as much as she enjoys hanging out with friends.
Cherry Jam: This Berry girl came to Berry Bitty City to escape the high-pressure life of a pop star. Cherry never expected to fall in love with the small town and decide to stay.
Raspberry Torte: A lovely fashionista with a fresh look, she enjoys designing outfits inspired by the people closest to her.

Features of Strawberry Shortcake BerryRush:
Power-ups, coins, and collectible progress: BerryRush adds variety to its runs with butterfly power-ups, plus coins you gather alongside fruit. Your haul matters beyond score-chasing, since fruit and coins feed into recipes and help unlock cute puppy companions. There is also a collecting layer built around sticker packs that fill a personal sticker book, which gives you something to build toward between runs.
Characters, outfits, and puppy pals: You are not limited to Strawberry Shortcake. The game lets you play as Strawberry Shortcake or friends including Cherry Jam, Orange Blossom, Blueberry Muffin, Lemon Meringue, Raspberry Torte, Plum Pudding, and Huckleberry Pie. Each character comes with her own style options, and the wardrobe system supports plenty of outfit changes for a fresh look while you run with the puppy pals.
Bake, decorate, and share the result: After a run, BerryRush shifts into the kitchen, where you bake and decorate cakes using the fruit you collected. The decorating step is the game’s most creative moment, and it even lets you snap a picture of your finished cake to show friends, which matches the app’s light, social feel without turning it into a complicated sharing platform.

Player Comments of Strawberry Shortcake BerryRush:
In all, there are only six main minigames. Berry Boarding is a little snow-boarding game that lets you take jumps and pull off simple air tricks. Balloon Race has you tapping the screen to build a staircase of tiny balloons, so Strawberry can ascent to the finish marker. In Licorice Leap, you drop small candy platforms into a sugary river, so that Strawberry’s pets can leap across in the time allotted. Berry Tiles is a card matching game, where you walk Strawberry’s dog Pupcake along a board of tiles and try to make them all display the same icon. Berry Bounce is a race to tap the right fruits as they fly out of holes in the ground, and Berry Tap is Strawberry’s version of whack-a-mole.
All of the games are reasonably entertaining, but they wear thin quickly. The same patterns continue on for several levels, but the increase in difficulty is really negligible. The tasks presented are so repetitive and shallow, that even young children might have a tough time staying entertained. My younger friends did say that the games were fun, but I could tell they were less than enthused.
To break up the monotony of the rather bland minigames, there is a small cooking segment that lets you make treats for Strawberry to use in the races. By winning tickets in the games, you can purchase recipes. This is a very original idea, but again the execution is lacking any real depth. Instead of feeling like a cooking simulator (like, say, Cooking Mama) these little games are sparse, one tap affairs. You are instructed to do something, like dropping a chocolate chunk into a bowl, and then move on to the next part of the recipe…like dropping sugar into the bowl. I would’ve liked some mixing, chopping or rolling in there too, but at least it’s a neat way to get powerups.
Unfortunately, it just makes the already too-easy minigames even easier.
Another little distraction is the balloon ride, which lets Strawberry coast in a hot air balloon and collect items and tickets along the way. With little to no activity or control required for this game, young players will quickly grow bored.
The presentation of the game seems rushed, and I feel like development time wasn’t spread evenly enough. The polygonal models of Strawberry and her friends are well done and textured for a DS game, but they animate rather choppily. The rest of the environments, from the main menu hub to the games, are completely flat. Everything is vibrant and colorful, but there is a serious lack of activity going on—most of Strawberry’s world is static, even in the minigames. As the games are the main draw, I wish they had more going on visually; the DS is certainly capable of more.
I’d like to be able to critique the game’s audio aspect, but there is so little that I have a hard time giving an honest appraisal. Strawberry Shortcake’s audio is practically nonexistent. The stock sound effects work well in their assigned places, but there are just so few of them and they repeat far too much. Music is barely represented, with a few tiny jingles but nothing else. The games are silent save for a few sound effects. Where are the bubbly beats and cheerful tunes to set the mood for the minigames? The games themselves are already kind of flat, and some catchy music would have given them at least a little more staying power.
Conclusion:
Strawberry Shortcake Berry Rush suits quick sessions where a player wants a bright, straightforward run with familiar characters. It places you on lively streets and gardens, then guides you with simple swipes that young players understand easily while still staying engaging for older fans. After each run, the focus shifts to baking and decorating, which adds variety without pressure.
