Gameplay of Pokmon Unite:

Pokémon Unite is a multiplayer online battle arena game in the manner of TiMi's previous title Honor of Kings, with standard matches consisting of two teams, each with 5 players. Each match is limited to 10 minutes in duration, and the team with the highest total score by the end of each match wins. If there is a tie, the team that reached the final score first (i.e. was previously leading in points) wins. A team can also win if the opposing team surrenders, which can only occur once the match reaches the halfway mark, and only if a supermajority of one team votes to surrender. There are limited time events with special rules, and a game mode called Quick Battle, 5 minute matches on smaller maps with 3-4 players per team and some changes to the rules.

Each player starts a match controlling a relatively weak Pokémon. The Pokémon may become stronger and gain access to new "moves" by capturing wild Pokémon, helping defeat wild Pokémon that their teammate captures, scoring a goal (with the amount of Experience gained varying depending on the number of points scored) and knocking out enemy player Pokémon. The "type" system common in other Pokémon games, a system similar to rock paper scissors that determines each Pokémon's effectiveness against others, is absent from Pokémon Unite. However, the game includes a new mechanic to the series known as "Unite Moves", which are moves similar to Ultimate moves in other MOBAs, and are unique to each Pokémon and are unlocked at certain levels depending on the Pokémon.Currently, the game has over 79 playable Pokémon.

Aside from the gameplay, Pokémon Unite differs from other MOBAs by lacking an in-game scoreboard, to discourage players from leaving the game out of frustration when they are losing in score; instead, the current score is implied through announcements at specific times of the match, specifically at 5 minutes to the end of the match, 3 minutes to the end of the match, two minutes before the end of the match and one minute before the end of the match. For instance, if the "We have a huge lead!" announcement is played, it means that one's own team is leading the score by 100 points or more, while if the "We're REALLY struggling!" announcement is played, it means that one's own team is trailing by 100 points or more.

Unite Moves for pivotal moments: Unite Moves are high-impact abilities unique to Unite Battles. These moves activate after charging during a match, and careful timing can shift momentum during a fight or objective. You plan around your team’s Unite Moves to stack advantages at key moments. This mechanic promotes coordinated decision making and makes late-game fights engaging.

Ranked mode and in-game communication: Ranked battles allow you to earn points and move through tiers on a global leaderboard. Built-in signals, quick-chat, and voice chat help teams stay aligned during rotations and fights. These tools keep match flow organized without relying on external apps. As a result, players can adjust strategy mid-game and respond to changes as a unit.

Cross-platform play and synced progress: Pokémon UNITE supports cross-platform play between Nintendo Switch and mobile. Don’t Just Pick Your Favourite: Pokemon Unite isn’t like Pokemon. Sure, you might use Mega Charizard X in the mainline series, but here Charizard is an All-Rounder. If you’re not sure about MOBA roles, be sure to check out our Pokemon Unite roles guide to see what I mean.I mean, you can play your favourite ‘mons, of course. But if you do, you need to be willing to commit to learn how they work in this particular context. It’s worth experimenting with all five roles - and, to be honest, all 20 Pokemon - in order to see which one fits your playstyle best. I desperately wanted to be a Gengar main, but I’m rubbish at Gengar. That win streak I mentioned earlier? All Lucario, despite the fact that I suck with him in Smash Ultimate. Who would have thought?

Learn Multiple Pokemon: This kind of continues from our last tip - if someone else picks Lucario before me and that’s the only Pokemon I know how to play, I’m kind of screwed. Ideally you’ll want to be familiar with at least one Pokemon from each role, which means you’ll never be stuck no matter who the rest of your team picks.Yes, that includes Support, too. Eldegoss is actually surprisingly fun to play - it’s not all about who gets the most kills.

Farm Wild Pokemon To Get Evolutions Faster: Some of the Pokemon in Pokemon Unite don’t evolve. This is fair enough for the likes of Absol and Cramorant, but for some reason Pikachu doesn’t evolve into Raichu and Lucario walks out the gate fully grown, completely bypassing Riolu.If you’re playing a Pokemon who does need to evolve though, you should pick your fights carefully. If you farm wild Pokemon, you should hit level four in no time, meaning you’re already at your second evolution and have a bit more survivability. The thing is, if you go up against the enemy players instead of wild Pokemon and get killed, the level gap will go in their favour and you’ll waste valuable time maxing out as Charizard or Venusaur. The longer it takes you to fully evolve, the worse it is for your team, and although fighting wild ‘mons might seem like a tedious method, it’s a whole lot quicker than coming back from the spawn ten times.

Pokémon Unite is the first attempt at creating a MOBA with the pocket monsters – and I must admit it’s a successful one. The game is fast and intense, but also easy to get a grip on. I don’t expect it to take the esports scene by storm, but it’s very enjoyable and works great in a doctor’s waiting room or on the bus. As for me, I can’t force myself to stop playing Pokémon Unite and hope the developers will keep updating it.

I don't have nothing to complain about this game, it's simply magnificent and perfect. I mean nowadays, because back in the day it was tough to get more pokémon to play, while nowadays there's a battle pass where you get more Pokémon to play the more you get levels on the Battle pass. Anyways, this game deserves a clean 8 to 10 in this forum due to the clean gameplay, absolutely addicting!

Pokémon Unite is a fun way to spend your time despite these frustrations. The game eats away the hours of my day as I reassuringly say to myself, “Just one more match.” Battles play out with the spectacle that the Pokémon series is known for, and with so many abilities to choose from, no match feels the same as the last. The game’s simple mechanics and recognizable characters make for an approachable MOBA experience; and with a potential catalog of nearly 900 Pokémon to pick from, my hopes are high for the future of Pokémon Unite.
