Gameplay of Shadowborn:

Combat in Shadowborn focuses on the interation between the player and the enemy. The system consists of both Combat Arts and Dark Arts. Dark Arts are forms of magic that empower heroes to cast strong and unorthodox magical attacks. There are many Combat Arts that empower heroes to use different fighting styles. Both Combat Arts and Dark Arts help the player face and defeat powerful enemies. There are many different combinations of magic and physical abilities that players can experiment with to defeat foes.

There is a focus on the player’s hero and the abilities at their disposal. The hero can gain new skills as they gain experience and level up. There are many skills and abilities that the player can obtain throughout their journey, and these skills can prove to be useful as the player comes across new enemies and obstacles. There is an emphasis on player choice regarding which abilities to obtain, as this typically determines the direction the player takes on their journey. Shadowborn rewards players for participating in the numerous side quests as these activities provide the player with additional power and abilities. The numerous RPG elements help strengthen the hero for the more challenging and epic quests and adventures.

Dark Worlds are the primary focus of the world-building in the game. Each Dark World is more than just a pretty backdrop. Players can discover hidden secrets, adventure through vast open plains and descend into bottomless caverns. Every new environment players discover is filled with challenging enemies and even more powerful bosses. Defeating these bosses helps players further their influence and power in the game by gaining the Tides of the Shadow. Players must gain the Tides of the Shadow in order to access new areas. Without access to these areas players can’t find the hidden upgrades they need to further help their character in battle. As players explore these dark worlds they gain a better understanding of the history, lore and the dark magic which created it.

Features of Shadowborn:

Timing, Dodge, and Positioning Matter: Shadowborn’s combat system places strong emphasis on timing and positioning. Dodging at the right moment can completely change the flow of a fight, while standing in the wrong place can quickly put you at a disadvantage. Success depends on reading enemy movements and responding with precision.Enemy patterns are readable and consistent, allowing you to learn through experience. Players who pay attention and react quickly are rewarded, while careless movement is punished. This balance keeps combat fair and satisfying, especially as difficulty increases.

No Auto Play, No Idle Mechanics: One of Shadowborn’s defining traits is the absence of auto play and idle systems. The game does not progress unless you are actively playing. There are no rewards for leaving the game open and no automated farming options to speed things up.Every level completed, every item collected, and every ability unlocked reflects time spent engaging with the game. This design reinforces the idea that progress should come from interaction, not from waiting.

Every Victory Feels Earned: Because combat relies entirely on player input, victories in Shadowborn feel meaningful. Success is tied directly to how well you play, not to hidden systems assisting you in the background. Challenging encounters become memorable moments rather than routine tasks.Defeats also have value. Instead of feeling unfair, losses provide clear feedback. You can identify what went wrong, adjust your approach, and return with better timing or positioning. This process creates a genuine sense of improvement.

Combat Designed for Short but Intense Sessions: Although Shadowborn offers depth, it remains optimized for mobile play. Combat encounters are designed to be intense but concise, usually lasting only a few minutes. Despite their short length, these sessions maintain tension and focus from start to finish.This structure allows you to enjoy meaningful action even during brief play sessions. You can step away and return without feeling disconnected, making the game well-suited to modern mobile lifestyles.

Strategies of Shadowborn:

When the shops reroll, you can get the same equipment with different stats. For instance, the angelic plate (warrior only) can go from 90 armor to 101 (at least that's the limit I found). The same goes for damage on hexbane, the artemis bow, feycraft plate, and virtually every item.

Exceptions include the wands (as far as I've tested), unique rings and amulets, and a few other items. Don't buy low!

If you raise your coin drop too high it's possible to cause an overflow and gold explosion. This will crash your game and you will uninstall and reinstall. Currently the cloud backup is unreliable.

Some skills when charged/aimed do not improve.

Leap attack is slower than attacking multiple times. Not because of the aim time. But the animation.

The 5th level +1 pistol shot is only one. It's not per pistol. Max pistol shots currently is 6: 2 black barts, pirates armor, and 5 levels in this. The current strongest pistol after the update is still black barts due to the extra pistol shot. But you must enchant it to level 7 to exceed the damage of a masterwork pistol.

Pistols also will knock down enemies.

Throwing knives /stun/. This is more valuable than most throwing hammers or axes depending how they are used. There are no (as of now) magic throwing knives.

You can upgrade the flute, horn, and baleful eyes with diamonds if you upgrade them in the forge, but not if you upgrade them in the field.

Any upgrades will drain your resources before asking for diamonds.

The unique package items (except possibly acrobatic boots) do spawn in the stores. However, this is not true of the 60 dollar feycraft belt and magic ring.

Player Comments of Shadowborn:

My go-to game. Beautiful, fun, quality Diablo-like plus more. Multiple game modes, love the ship battles. Plenty of missions. Development is active. Has some very minor quirks/bugs to work out, but nothing that causes real problems. Needs more variety of equipment, mage needs to be able to use all his spells, mercs need to disengage when distance, needs more ability explanation. Inventory is tough, get the bag of holding; it's a bargain when you consider the 100+ hours you'll put into the game.

Easily one of my favorite mobile games, it sells you what your "buying" but for free...payment isnt necessary (i recommended the storage bag) to enjoy/progress. ive made multiple characters and there's variety in the loot drops, more than enough money and equipment to farm and it doesnt feel like a grind. I just finished the first chapter and impatiently waiting for the next update.

My new favorite phone game; When I saw it looked just like Diablo II, but with Keanu Reeves, I knew I wanted to try it out. I'd been in the old phase of trying to find a game to play, so when I booted it just to try it a little, I realized I had really got into it! What would have been a 5 minute play test turned into 2 hours of fun before I asked myself; should I keep going? Of course, yes! I love the way the characters speak in such a direct Olde English style; don't change a thing, it's peak.

I will be honest...This game is much better than I thought it would. I'm playing the warrior right now which is fun. I like just rushing in and killing everything with a great sword but the other two classes seem interesting like the mage I forget the name right now. I love the graphics tried it both on my pc and phone. The phone is great as well very surprised how well it worked. Definitely worth a download.
