Overview:

The plot focuses on a young man, who apparently died in unknown circumstances, having zero memories or recollections of the past. Accepting his fate, and ready for the eternal rest, he slowly wakes up in a mysterious reality, surrounded of cute girls claiming to be grim reapers. Naturally confused, but having no reasons to doubt them, the protagonist wants answers, nevertheless, the grim reapers are as confused as him about why he came to their dimension, or who is him in the first place. The only option left to get the answers he wants, is accept the help of the grim reapers and their conditions to understand who, or what he is.

The last official update of the game was released during April, 2022. Since then, no official updates for the game has been released, and the creator declared he is not satisfied with his own visual novel. And while he was willing to continue the project, he was simply not happy with the art and the direction of the game mechanics, so he was re-working on the game from zero, hoping to get better results. Currently, the game is still on hiatus, and its future is still unknown.

This game would effectively be on hiatus.

I'm not actually happy with how it's turning out, so I will be redoing the game.

I would still be working on the game, but I don't want to have the pressure of people asking me when the update is coming out.  

Asking me when the next update is coming doesn't make it come faster, surprisingly.

Why redo the game?

The main reason is I don't feel excited working on just a visual novel anymore and want to make more involved games. I tried to still work on this vn but that just resulted to the process taking long since I'm not fully happy with it.

Another reason is it's been a long time since I first started this project and my art has improved since then. I'm not happy with the quality of a lot of the art/animation of the vn anymore.

Making a game with more gameplay would take longer to do, so don't expect anything to come anytime soon.

Lastly, I know I could have announced this sooner, but I wanted to do it along with releasing CRIMR: kamuo.itch.io/crimr

So people would have something to play rather than just be disappointed.

I do not want to go into too many details in regard to the story of Aren't Grim Reapers Supposed to be Scary? As the story is honestly one of the best things that this game has going on for it. The basics are that we awaken one day to be greeted by two very cute girls who inform us that they are in fact, grim reapers. Forget the black cloak and scythe (or whatever that thing is called) these are cute and curious girls and our life is about to never be the same again.

The writing in Aren't Grim Reapers Supposed to be Scary? Is very well done and the developer has such a great talent for making characters likable. In the last build of the game that I played, there are a few different girls that you can get to know better and there is not a bad one in the bunch. I am probably going to use the phrase, “cute” a great deal, but that is not just in terms of the visuals. There is just something so cute about the way that these characters act and talk that it is nearly impossible not to be smiling the whole time that you are playing this.

With Aren't Grim Reapers Supposed to be Scary? Being a lewd visual novel, you probably know what to expect when it comes to the gameplay. You follow the story and then you make choices here and there to move the story along in what you feel is the right direction. There are different girls in this game and of course, getting the lewd scene with each of them is the goal. The thing is, this is one of those lewd visual novels where you get to a point where your choice is locked in and there is no going back. I wish that it let you save before making key choices so that we did not have to replay the whole game to see the outcomes with the different characters. To be fair you can skip the text so perhaps I am being a bit nitpicky with my complaint here.

The developer of Aren't Grim Reapers Supposed to be Scary? Is well known for their amazing animations in their lewd games and this is truly something special. These characters all have a cute look about them, but they are also very sexy too and the fully animated sex scenes are some of the best that I have seen in quite some time! This is not just a few repeated frames of animation to give the impression of movement, this stuff here actually looks like a high end hentai movie with how smooth and awesome it is. It may not have a ton of sex scenes, but that just makes you appreciate the immense quality of the ones that are here even more.
