Introduction

Map My Walk is a training tool designed for fitness enthusiasts. It generates personalized workout plans based on the user's physical profile and pairs with smart devices—such as smart shoes and watches—to track and map workout routes in real time, while providing instant feedback on workout efficiency and guidance on when to stop. The app generates data on metrics such as speed, calories burned, and duration; users can also share their routes with the community or with friends to garner likes. Additionally, the app integrates data from various health and nutrition apps, allowing users to create better meal plans tailored to their activity levels and thereby boost workout efficiency.

Features of Map My Walk:

Routes and spoken updates make distance tangible: During an outdoor walk, GPS records the route, distance, moving time, pace, and estimated calories burned. Depending on connected hardware, the workout record can also include heart rate and elevation. Spoken updates provide distance and pace information without requiring frequent looks at the screen, a small detail that makes the app better suited to long walks than a basic pedometer.Completed routes remain in a walking history, so weekly progress and longer-term goals are easy to review. The Routes feature can save favorite walks or help locate different paths, while challenges, badges, and social sharing add some external encouragement. This mix particularly suits regular walkers building a habit, people monitoring weight-related goals, and anyone preparing for longer organized walks. Casual users may find the many statistics excessive, but they can stick to distance and duration.

Garmin support strengthens the fitness record: Device compatibility is one of the app's better arguments. It can sync with Garmin and Samsung wearables, Google Fit, selected health apps, and supported step counters. Garmin users also receive Form Coaching tips intended to improve their stride. These connections help avoid scattering heart rate, step, and workout records among several unrelated apps. There is some account friction. An Under Armour account is required, with details including an email address, birth date, height, and weight. That information supports weight tracking and related recommendations, but people who only want a quick GPS map may reasonably dislike providing so much personal data before recording a walk.

MVP reserves its best planning and safety tools: The free tier covers the essentials: GPS maps, workout statistics, goals, route records, and community challenges. MVP Premium adds personalized fitness plans, custom splits, heart-rate zone analysis, and deeper performance data. Live Tracking is particularly useful because it shares a walker's real-time location with friends or family, although placing this safety-oriented tool behind the subscription is disappointing.

User Reviews of Map My Walk:

I really like this app because you can easily see your progress over time. Though I could use my Apple Watch exercise tracker I prefer this because Apple Watch historic information gets lost and you have to really dig for it , say to see your stats for last week. With Map my walk, just scroll down to see previous workouts. I also love that you can see your pace for each 30 mins if your workout, as well as overall pace, distance and calories, and the voice prompts/coaching is customisable; I ask for it to flag after each mile of progress. This was recommended on the BodySlims programme, on which I lost 2 stone with diet and daily 1 hour walks, plus the force of nature coach Gerard Moran.

I’m loving this, had it for a few years now and use it frequently, especially when I do a new well. However there are some things I’d love it to do:1. When I forget to end my walk… it love to be able to go on the walk map and click a point as  the of the walk instead of having five minutes in the car tacked on the end! 2. I’d also LOVE to be able to go into the map find a location and draw a walk to see how long it was going to be. I did a walk that was too long for me (elderly with health issues) recently because I’d forgotten how long it was and I wish I’d been able to check first! Not the APPS fault- but id love to be able to do these two things!

I have been using this app since 2011. And during this lockdown period (where I’ve had the time to walk) of 2020 it has not been working as well as previous years the mileage has been totally wrong for example I walked to my brother’s house the other day a round trip of 2 miles but yet MapMyWalk thought I did 5 and a half. Another example would be was a day after when I walked to the nearest town and back which is roughly 4 miles but yet MapMyWalk thought it was 7.5 miles. What’s happened? Several more of my walks have been out this year get a grip under armour sort it out!
