Heartstrings is a casual simulation game with an adult theme. Players will begin their high school life in a new town, encountering a variety of characters, interacting with teachers and students, triggering various interesting plot events, and making decisions to shape their destinies and earn their favor, leading to intimate interactions and unlocking various H-scenes. Heartstrings requires players to maintain a balance between academics, social life, and health; any imbalance will affect plot development and dialogue choices, adding more randomness to the game. Fixed issue with tooltips. They were broken and not working correctly.

Fixed issue with the mobile phone UI, as well as other UIs, where text continued to show while the UI was visible, causing unexpected errors.

Fixed issue where scenes would restart when closing certain UIs.

Increased the maximum number of characters when choosing the character’s first name and last name from 8 characters each to 12. (You may experience visual issues when setting names and surnames over 16 characters, which was the previous limit).

Fixed Emma/Emily’s name in the science class.

Fixed some texts in the first gym class.

Fixed issue with resolutions: The game is designed to work correctly in 16:9 resolutions, and other resolutions were being filtered out. Now, if your monitor doesn’t support those resolutions, you can choose a resolution from the available options, and it will display a warning about possible visual errors.

Fixed issue with Steve’s first appearance, where the Constructive attribute was reduced to 1 in a couple of responses.

Added a button on the main title screen for the Oppaiman store.

Reduced the amount of libido required to take a detailed, lustful look at Emily when you first meet her.

Fixed a bug that allowed the fantasy scene with Kally to trigger at an invalid time, which broke the game.

Fixed some errors in the Spanish translation.

Added a window in the main menu with a warning to change the resolution in case of visual or UI problems with the game.

Speaking as someone who doesn't frequently play visual novels, Heartstrings grabbed my attention with its thoughtful storytelling, nostalgic Y2K setting and eye-catching style. One of the things I find most appealing is that instead of being a mindless sex fest, the lewd scenes are introduced in a way that feels organic and directly tied to the player's choices. As a gamer, I like to feel rewarded for the actions I make in a game, and Heartstrings delivers in that regard, even in this early stage of development.Outside of the choice-based gameplay, I really enjoyed navigating the school and familiarizing myself with the layout without a map. I have always favored games that make me use my head to make progress without holding my hand, and that is very much present here. The presence of the in-game clock speaks to the urgency of making it to each class on time, which would be trivialized if a map was available. I would love to see branching story paths spring up from losing track of time and failing to stick to the school day schedule, which would also lend to the organic way the story unfolds.The few flaws that I can think of are typical of a game in early development. Some of the ambient sounds in the build I played (Alpha 2.2.1) were a little rough when looping and some of the dialog/narration felt a little off in a couple places, but these are things that would naturally end up being polished before the full release. All in all, Heartstrings shows a ton of promise. If you're looking for solid storytelling, early 2000s vibes and being rewarded for progress with some seriously tasty lewd scenes, consider this recommendation!
