The Dented Kettle

The Dented Kettle is a story-driven casual game that blends simulation, suspense, and horror elements. Players take on the role of Sable, who inherits her grandmother's restaurant. The player must rebuild and expand the business, attracting a diverse clientele and using culinary skills to win their favor and funds to upgrade the restaurant. While running the restaurant, players also need to develop new relationships, finding love in heartwarming daily interactions and unlocking various sensual animations. As the story progresses, players will gradually uncover the restaurant's secrets. Will you ultimately succeed in making the restaurant a success?

Story of The Dented Kettle:

When Sable inherits her grandmother’s old diner, she expects grease stains, broken appliances, and a steady stream of lonely regulars. What she doesn’t expect is to find herself at the center of something stranger- something that doesn’t belong in the kitchen, or anywhere else in the waking world.

Welcome to The Dented Kettle, a story-driven visual novel that blends cozy diner life with unsettling mystery and slow-burn romance. You play as Sable, a quiet but determined woman who’s got little more than a set of keys, a rusty grill, and a dream of keeping her grandmother’s legacy alive. The place has seen better days, and so has Sable. Together, they might just make it work.

Between morning coffee rushes and late-night repairs, you’ll manage your time, upgrade the diner, and choose how Sable grows her relationships- with new friends, curious strangers, or a certain someone who keeps showing up after dark.

But as the days go on, and the lights flicker a little too often, you’ll start to notice things. Things that shouldn’t be there. Things that whisper when no one else is around. The diner has a past- and it’s not ready to stay buried.

Will you rebuild what’s been lost- while uncovering truths that were meant to stay hidden?

Environmental Upgrades: Repair jukeboxes, polish booths, or install occult symbols found during exploration. Choices alter aesthetics and story outcomes.

Mystery-Driven Mechanics: Unusual events like floating coffee cups or vanishing customers hint at deeper lore. Track clues via an in-game journal.

Environmental Storytelling: Examine chalk outlines under tables, dusty photo albums, or cryptic graffiti only visible after midnight.

Character Dialogues: Befriend locals like a paranoid mechanic or a mute artist whose sketches reveal hidden truths. Their secrets may endanger—or save—you.

Paranormal Puzzles: Solve riddles tied to spectral entities. Wrong answers could trap you in loops… or awaken something worse.

Dynamic Time Management: Prioritize tasks between customer service, kitchen repairs, and cryptic investigations. Delays affect morale—and the diner’s supernatural stability.

Crowd vibe modifiers to both the diner and the strip club jobs.  Vibes will modify crowd sizes, tips, stress, and chances of various events triggering.  This can give different times of day or weather conditions more or less appeal (E.g. Trying to catch the "Lunch Rush" vibe to make more money at the diner by operating the diner around lunch!). 

Badges showing which characters are in a location from the location/action hub screen

Added athletics and mind skill checks to some existing diner/strip club events and added some new ones, and added some cooking skill check events to the diner.

Very low on content right now, but what is here is top tier. Also seems like the developer is making updates fast right now so that is super cool. The dialogue is really well written and the cgs are great, on top of that the gameplay is integrated very well so it doesnt feel annoying or too grindy.

A very ok proof of concept. There's a lot of interesting plot hooks but without much meat in any of the storylines they set up trying to play it now feels pretty unfocused. What has been written is endearing at the very least. Some of the problem might stem from there only being two time slots in a day. I would be shocked if that did not change at some point given the developer's roadmap to add more stats to raise and more locations to meet new love interests in. The rest of the mechanics are currently pretty light and straightforward, which makes sense for something trying to be part cozy vn and part sandbox with systems feeding into each other to show you everything in the game. That said, there are already some oversights, and some events are needing updates to fix flags or chance of happening.The decisions to make every single character a conventionally attractive woman or futa and to have all generic npcs be eyeless to differentiate them from the main cast are great ideas, but on their own are not quite enough actually make the ai output as a whole feel distinct from similar offerings. Again, by no means bad, just not unforgettably good.In regard to that most dangerous word “potential”: this project is something to keep an eye on for sure. If the dev can walk the razor's edge to flesh out existing ideas while adding the other planned five-sixths of the content without burying himself in technical debt or making the game a chore to play through, this absolutely could be good or even great. However, that is a very big if, especially for a first project.

This game is meant to be a visual novel in the truest sense of that word: this is a story to be experienced more than it's a game to be explored. The player doesn't really have much agency other than various dailies that make various numbers go up, tied to various scene triggers. Consequently, it's good that the prose is enjoyable because that's the primary window the player will have to shape their experience. However, that's not to say this game is without flaws.Although in early development, it isn't even in early alpha (e.g. missing whole features, game loops, storylines, etc.)There is the suggestion of dating/romancing other NPCs but none of those stories are complete; there isn't a single finished storyline.

There is the suggestion of a mysterious, supernatural metaplot but no means to qualify or quantify the player's progression in that metaplot, nor to reliably engage it.The player has little to no agency in making the game as erotic as they desire. What does occur is either random, or if it's a main story beat it'll appear as a choice (go/no-go) out of nowhere without indication that it was coming.There's some hand holding, a kiss, some groping by strangers, masturbation, and sex in a dream sequence. That is it. It's remarkably tame insofar as erotic games go.While the AI art is good, it's sparse. It's a lot of repeated models to offer static visuals to supplement the text, and a scant few static images, that while gorgeous, really could use more interstitial art if this is meant to be a visual novel, rather than a light novel that sporadically has pictures.

Summary:

The Dented Kettle marries time-management gameplay with branching narrative choices, making it ideal for players who enjoy character-driven stories, multiple romance routes, and creeping atmosphere. This project is currently in development, offering an introduction to the main storyline and relationship threads with more content planned.
