Story of Horse Magic:

Player Comments of Horse Magic:

This game plays into a more pulpy style of story telling without being overly cheesy. It does move quickly to get into the story, and smut, with a few small opening scenes to set the characters and their dynamics with each other. The characters themselves are each unique enough from each other to be distinguishable, and they have an array of personalities to like.

The art is quite nicely stylized and there's plenty of animation and sound effects. It does struggle with the characters not always contrasting well with the background and the two can blend together some. Though it does bring some nice visual cues for which character is talking in a scene with highlighting the one that is and subduing the rest (Or them all during narration). There's also a nice touch of the mouths moving when a person is talking and a regular change in facial expressions for characters involved in a scene.

The biggest issue I have with this game is the progression. There's no save files, so when you exit you can continue where you left off or start from a specific chapter (A good and bad thing). But there's also no obvious skip function either which means you're tapping the space bar non-stop to get to the choices or new content; the mouse is only used for choice selection. It makes replay-ability very difficult for those that want to see the changes their different choices will have. Not that there are many changes with those different choices beyond some small exposes or not; the main plot ones are basically non-choices and more for character flavor.

This game has a lot of potential and could do with a UX improvement (Specifically adding a skip function) and adding a bit more weight to the choices beyond seeming character flavor.

If you want the completed game though, with 8 chapters instead of the 3 here, you'll have to find it other places. Which also means you'll encounter a couple of mini games and light sandboxing.

Summary:

Horse Magic functions as a choice-based story app. Every decision matters, influencing relationships and branching into unique storylines. This setup allows players to replay and uncover new endings each time, which keeps the story fresh even after multiple sessions.
